The first ephemeral 3D asset database

An asset is never finished.

Mayfly gives each 3D asset a lasting identity and a representation that keeps improving. As models and pipelines advance, so do its geometry, materials, articulation and simulation setup.

A different kind of asset library

Keep the identity.
Improve everything else.

Most asset libraries treat a model as a finished file. Mayfly treats it as a living record. A stable identity holds the history, while each layer can become richer as the systems behind it improve.

Calibrated materials

Materials with
numbers behind them.

Every surface in Mayfly comes from one library of calibrated materials. Each package records what it is aiming at and how close it lands, so the same package dresses an asset in Blender, in the browser and in Unreal.

Ten of the library's materials, each rendered on the same shader ball in the studio rig every asset is photographed in. The figures under each are read from that material's own calibration record.

Never see the same exact asset twice

One asset.
Many variations.

Every Mayfly asset is one mesh wearing layered materials. Its tint and its wear sit in separate layers and blend continuously, so the same pair of shears can be new, used, wet or worn through, in any colour. Nothing here was modelled twice.

Blend it yourself

Six of the twelve looks published with these kitchen shears: three tints at four levels of wear. One mesh, one camera, one light; only the material layers change.

Anatomy of an asset

Five layers.
One evolving whole.

Each layer adds a different kind of usefulness. Select one to see how the asset grows from a record into something ready to move, interact and be understood.

Layer 01 / Foundation

A record that persists.

A stable asset ID connects provenance, versions, formats and technical descriptors. Every new representation belongs to the same record.

Mayfly API Coming

Give your agent the Mayfly API.

Never open the store again. No downloading hundreds of files and opening asset after asset. Let the API do the tedious work: it will search by meaning and measurements, pick the form your scene needs and hand over one asset, dressed and placed.

  • Ask in plain terms.

A dresser under 80 cm wide, articulated drawers, simulation-ready. The API will find it by what it is and how big it is, never by a file name.

  • Get exactly the form you need.

The format, the level of detail, the look. One call, and the asset arrives in the engine you named, wearing the variation you asked for.

  • Keep the identity.

The same asset id, for good. Call again next year and the newer representation comes back under it.

A kitchen from Plumb, the studio's room pipeline: every part in place, the microwave opening on its own joint. The agent asks for the room; this is what should come back.
